The Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system is used in most modern engines to improve efficiency and performance. At the heart of this system is the camshaft phaser, which adjusts the position of the camshaft in response to engine load and speed.

Depending on the engine configuration, the phaser may be installed on the intake camshaft, the exhaust camshaft, or both. Some engines use a single phaser, while others use multiple units.
