Masuma has expanded its suspension components lineup with a new addition — strut mount bearings for MacPherson-type suspension systems.
The strut mount (shock absorber support) bearing is a critical component of the MacPherson front suspension, commonly used in compact and midsize vehicles. Since the front struts in this type of suspension rotate as the wheels turn, the bearing ensures smooth rotation of the strut assembly when steering.
Signs of Strut Mount Bearing Wear
During driving, the strut mount bearing is subjected to impacts, vibrations, as well as radial and axial loads. Harsh road conditions and moisture ingress significantly reduce its service life. Symptoms of a worn-out strut mount bearing include:
- Creaking or grinding noises when turning the steering wheel
- Stiff or jerky steering
- Knocking sounds in the front suspension
- Excessive play in the front struts
Driving with a faulty strut mount bearing not only degrades handling, but also accelerates wear on the shock absorbers and steering components. Therefore, it is recommended to replace a worn strut mount bearing at the first signs of failure. For optimal performance, replacement in pairs is advised.
Masuma Strut Mount Bearings
Masuma offers strut mount bearings in commonly used designs, including ball and roller rolling-element bearings and polymer plain bearings.
- The balls and rollers in the rolling-element bearings are made of high-carbon GCR15 steel, known for its strength and wear resistance
- The plain bearings use nylon (PA66 polyamide), one of the strongest synthetic polymers available
- The bearing cages of the plain bearings are made from polyoxymethylene (POM), a thermoplastic with excellent impact resistance
- All bearings are lubricated with high-temperature LM7315C grease, which minimizes friction and provides corrosion protection
Masuma strut mount bearings are engineered to match the specifications of OEM parts, ensuring reliable operation and long service life.
Currently, the Masuma product range includes strut mount bearings for Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, and Suzuki vehicles. The lineup is continuously expanding — stay tuned for updates to the catalog.
