An air filter has a direct impact on both engine longevity and performance. A typical engine consumes about 15 times more air than fuel, and that air is often contaminated—from road dust to leaves and insects. That’s why the air filter is a critical component of the intake system.
Masuma offers more than 500 types of air filters. Here’s a closer look at the lineup.
Masuma Air Filter DESIGN
Masuma manufactures air filters in a variety of formats:
- modern panel-type cartridge filters;
- cylindrical filters ("canister" style) for trucks and off-road vehicles;
- frameless filters for compact cars;
- round air filters for older engine designs.
The filter media used in Masuma air filters is made of non-woven synthetic fiber with interlaced strands. Compared to traditional filter paper, non-woven fiber captures up to five times more dust. It does so not just on the surface, but throughout the entire thickness of the material—effectively trapping and retaining contaminants inside. Additional benefits of non-woven media include:
✓ minimal airflow restriction, allowing the engine to perform at full power without excessive fuel consumption;
✓ resistance to water ingress—the filter maintains performance even when wet from rain or water crossings.
Masuma Pre-Oiled Air Filters
In addition to standard dry filters, Masuma also offers a range of pre-oiled (oil-impregnated) air filters. These filters are treated with a high-viscosity oil that acts as a sticky barrier to trap fine dust and sand particles. This added layer of filtration is especially useful for vehicles operated on unpaved roads, where fine dust can easily bypass dry filters.
Key advantages of oil-impregnated air filters include:
- improved filtration efficiency compared to dry filters;
- enhanced retention of microscopic particles that might otherwise enter the intake system;
- reduced risk of cylinder wall and piston ring contamination and premature engine wear;
- better protection of the MAF sensor and throttle body from contamination.
Masuma produces pre-oil air filters primarily for Japanese vehicles. The current list of oil-treated filters includes:
MFA-366, MFA-1011, MFA-2134, MFA-2148, MFA-N216, MFA-1046, MFA-1098, MFA-2126, MFA-2132, MFA-2142, MFA-2144, MFA-325, MFA-344, MFA-345, MFA-H534, MFA-H537, MFA-H548, MFA-N200, MFA-H536, MFA-N201.
The service life of oil-impregnated filters is the same as that of standard air filters. Replacement is recommended at every oil change. These filters are non-serviceable, they are not washable and cannot be re-oiled.
