Masuma expands its auto electronics range with a new product: Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensors, also known as air flow meters.
The MAF sensor is a key component of the engine management system. It measures the amount of air entering the engine, enabling the ECU to calculate the precise amount of fuel needed for an optimal air-fuel mixture. This helps ensure efficient engine performance, reduced fuel consumption, and lower emissions.
Common MAF Sensor Failures
Air flow sensors can malfunction due to several reasons:
- Contamination of the sensing element with dust or oil vapors from the crankcase ventilation system
- Overheating of the sensing element
- Moisture or condensation causing contact corrosion or short circuits
- Electrical issues such as voltage surges, broken wiring, or damaged connectors
- Mechanical damage during improper cleaning or installation
- Natural wear and degradation of the sensor element over time
A faulty MAF sensor sends inaccurate data to the ECU, which leads to poor engine performance, increased fuel consumption, power loss, and unstable idle.
In cases of contamination, cleaning the sensor element may restore proper function. However, more serious issues require sensor replacement.
Masuma Air Flow Meters
Masuma MAF sensors offer a reliable, long-lasting, and accurate solution for air flow measurement. Designed to OEM specifications, they incorporate proven engineering features:
- Wire-type construction
Instead of film-based designs, Masuma uses wire-type sensing for faster and more precise response. - Platinum hot wire
Unlike standard tungsten elements, the platinum wire is more resistant to corrosion and high temperatures, significantly extending sensor lifespan. - Bypass airflow channel
Helps reduce contamination of the sensor element and improves measurement stability. - Glass protective coating
The hot wire is covered with a glass film that shields it from dust and oil deposits, maintaining accuracy even in harsh operating conditions.
